Frequently asked questions
How do I know the needs are real?
Every need is reviewed before it goes live. We verify the poster's identity and review their story. Verified needs are marked with a trust badge so you can give with confidence.
What fees does Givolve charge?
Givolve charges no platform fee. A standard transaction fee of 2.9% plus CA$0.30 covers payment processing and is deducted from the gift. You can also add an optional tip to support Givolve. Full details are on our Pricing and Fees page.
Can I give anonymously?
Yes. Check the “Give anonymously” box at checkout. Your name will not appear on the need page or be shared with the recipient.
How does the recipient get the money?
Recipients connect a bank account through Stripe, our secure payment partner. Gifts are held securely until the recipient connects their bank account and payouts are released. If a recipient does not connect within 90 days, donors are refunded.
Is my personal information safe?
Yes. We use Stripe for all payment processing, so we never see or store your card details. Your personal information is protected under our Privacy Policy and Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
Can I donate items instead of money?
Absolutely. Tap “Donate Free Items” on the homepage to post something you no longer need. Someone in your community can claim it for free.
Why not just leave items on the curb?
Leaving items outside exposes them to rain, snow, and sun. By the time someone finds them, they may be damaged or unusable. Givolve lets you post a photo of the item while it is still inside your home and in good condition. When someone who needs it claims it, you arrange a convenient time for pickup. The item stays protected, goes to someone who genuinely needs it, and nothing goes to waste.
What happens if a need does not get fully funded?
The recipient keeps whatever has been donated. There is no all-or-nothing threshold. Every dollar helps, even if the full goal is not reached.
How do I report a suspicious need?
Every need page has a Report button. Our team reviews all reports and takes action within 24 hours.
